> DESCRIPTION

Mark Delong was born in 1978 in New Brunswick. He currently lives and works in Vancouver. Delong is a self-taught artist working in a range of media, including sculpture, drawing, painting, and sequential art.  His work features a rotating cast of characters in situations both ordinary and surreal. Drawing inspiration from dreams, popular television, and the absurdities in day-to-day life, Delong's work combines humor with a raw and spontaneous aesthetic.

Past exhibitions include Colette; Bee Studios, Tokyo; Spencer-Brownstone Gallery, NY; Abel Neue Kunst Gallery, Berlin; Perugi Art Contemporenea, Padova, Italy; Museum of London Ontario, MOCCA Toronto; LES Gallery, Vancouver; MOCCA and Hunter and Cook in Toronto. Delong has books published by Nieves, Seems, and TV Books. Mark has international representation by Perugi Art Contemporenea, Italy, Hunter and Cook Gallery in Toronto and Jean Du Mauritz Gallery in Vancouver.

Landon Metz, born in Phoenix, March 24, 1985, is a multi media artist living in New York City, by way of Los Angeles where he studied at Art Center College of Design. Metz works in a variety of media creating abstract visuals and soundscapes as a painter, sculptor, photographer, and filmmaker. His work is concerned with an elevated consciousness he believes to be synonymous with a state of “no mind” and addresses the non-dual nature of the universe there within.

Past Exhibitions includes a curatorial project titled The Company of People at Space 15 Twenty, group and solo exhibitions at Los Angeles; Youth Group Gallery, End of Century, Renwick Gallery, Openhouse Gallery, New York; Less is More Projects, Paris; Mike Potter Projects, Cologne; and Preteen Gallery, Mexico City.  Landon has publication circulating with Seems and The Company Books.

Mark Delong and Landon Metz will be presenting separate bodies of work unified by the medium of ceramics. Mark Delong’s new ceramic work uses a primitive visual language to explore sculptural realizations of childlike animations. Along with new earthenware eggs Delong includes sculptures made of ceramic, paint and resins. Small ceramic collage works and paintings bring the visual story full circle. Landon Metz will present ceramic sculpture for the first time in his career. Looking to explore a new medium and bridge his minimalist and abstract painterly sensibility with a traditional craft, Metz explores porcelain, glazes and the extension of living objects.

MasterClass opens on November 17, 2011 and will be on view at Ed. Varie through December 11. Please contact the gallery for hours.
