> DESCRIPTION

GALERIA’s first exhibition, QUEER BODIES, curated by artist Hector Canonge, focuses on visual representations of the masculine and / or feminine physique and the manner in which gender and identity are constructed. Artists working using various media were selected based on a city wide open call.  Their works approach the subject matter and give a new angle to what constitutes being Gay, Lesbian or Transgender.

GALERIA is a project of the recognized Queer film series, CINEMAROSA, in partnership with HOMBRES LOUNGE. GALERIA has been created as an alternative arts space to feature the works and projects of artists who identify themselves as Gay, Lesbian or Transgender. In addition to the monthly exhibitions featuring the work of Queer visual artists, GALERIA will serve as a cultural hub for the presentation of Performance Art, video screenings, and social events for networking and dialogue.

As Queens’ newest alternative art space, GALERIA presents a monthly exhibition program dedicated to showcase Queer Art by local, national, and international artists working in various media. Monthly art exhibitions will take place at the Lower Level of HOMBRES LOUNGE starting in August and continuing through the end of 2011. The monthly exhibitions explore various issues in relation to themes that concern gay, lesbian and transgender peoples, communities and artists who identify as Queer or work with LGBT topics.
