> DESCRIPTION

In the Canvas Paper and Stone Gallery's first traveling show of the 2008 year we trek to the Sugar Hill area of Harlem to explore the rhythms of Afro-Caribbean Impressionist Alvin Clayton in collaboration with Sugar Hill Harlem Inn.

While Clayton's face might be familiar from fashion magazines, commercials and catalogues, his true passion lies in the brushstrokes of oil on canvas, in bold, beautiful pieces rich in lifestyle content that he has been painting for the last 17 years in Paris, LA and NY. Clayton's childhood memories of island bliss and brilliant hues in Trinidad are intricately incorporated in his trademark color style, which includes a broad use of blue. Clayton is best known for his evocative, vivid Matisse-inspired portrayals of interiors, still life's, jazz musicians, families, and seascapes.
