The Universe comes to Harlem from September 14-September 27, 2011 as Chashama's 461 Gallery presents the mixed-media, oil and beeswax paintings by New York City artist Jennie Booth.
Booth fills the gallery with glowing portraits of an iconographic Universe walking through the landscape of Her own Consciousness.
Through a blend of Brain Science, Physics, Psychology, Religious Iconography and Landscape Tableaux, these paintings express the power and vulnerability of the human psyche when faced with its own vast and mysterious nature.
Booth explains, "Our individual realities are a case of ‘all brain, all the time.’ It is ironic that the ‘sane’ interpretation of experience depends on a delicate mass of cells that we rarely think about." Booth’s work journeys through a world of Freaky Observers, vibrating Strings, life-anchoring yucca and blazing sunsets painted with jewel-like colors that resemble stained glass.
The public is invited to view the work from September 14 - 27, 2011
Wednesday through Sunday, from 1-6PM.
Opening Reception on Friday September 16th 6-9pm
