Please join us to celebrate a very special birthday event to honor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi - Nobel Peace Laureate, former political prisoner, and nonviolent pro-democracy leader of Burma.
Daw Suu spent more than 15 years in detention until she was released
on November 13, 2010 and for the very first time in more than seven
years, she will be spending her birthday FREE! This inspirational and
celebratory event is uniquely planned not only to celebrate her 66th
birthday, but to also present an exclusive experience to get to know
"The Lady" at a personal level.
Art/Educational displays will include
- A 40-foot timeline of Daw Suu’s life
- Astounding and rare portraits of Daw Suu by various artists
- Images and biographies of political prisoners, courtesy of
Association for Assistance of Political Prisoners - Burma
(www.aappb.org)
The event is organized by pro-democracy activists from the Burmese
community and concerned citizens of New York. The event is free and
open to the public. Traditional Burmese appetizers and refreshments
will be served.
