The ancient art form of encaustic has evolved into one of the most exciting mediums available to contemporary artists. These hands-on workshops will explore the luminous beauty and versatility of encaustic art—the fusing by heat of pigmented beeswax.
In the beginner session, students will learn the basics of encaustic, as well as how to easily and inexpensively incorporate encaustic into their regular studio practice. Discussions and demonstrations include: equipment and tools, encaustic medium recipes, pigmenting options, substrate possibilities, and studio safety. Many techniques such as creating texture, line, collage and image transfers will be introduced.
In the advanced session, students will have time to work and develop their technique and understanding of this versatile medium. Technique demonstrations will be provided as needed. More advanced techniques such as encaustic monotype and collagraphs will be introduced.
No matter your genre or medium, encaustic offers many exciting creative possibilities. Prior workshop registrants are welcome. Ample time for hands-on work will be provided. For more information about the instructor, please visit: www.deborahwiniarski.com.
