Distancing itself from the actual world, Lacey Kim's paintings express what does not exist in a clear form through a balance of contradictions. The 'line,' among others, has been a means and messenger of expressing the state of 'her being free.' It has various forms, sometimes a round one, and in other times a straight one. In addition, it shows a feeling of being sometimes slow and sometimes fast. She presents the unrestricted infinity of the world through the lines in her painting.
Kim is seeking a harmony of the opposites, consciousness and unconsciousness in her paintings. She wishes her work to be a medium that communicates between a visible world and an invisible one. The idea is that a deep space with various layers, enables us to experience a space that transcends the two-dimensional world of painting. Lines and colors, which cross one another freely and create a variety of unexpected forms provide images with a new potential. Subtle changes in paintings help us to reach the level of spiritual meditation.
