Professional Women Photographers, in conjunction with Macy’s Herald Square, celebrates Women’s History Month with an exhibition of photography that examines women and their achievements in the world.
Once a woman’s world was confined to the home. To venture outside it meant that others were unable to support her, or she was thought to be brazen. Today women have equal opportunities, working in many spheres once limited to men, even rising to leadership positions. But in many parts of the world, including in the United States, gender separation and inequality remains deeply ingrained, both culturally and politically.
Yet no matter what their work, women the world over are courageous, flexible, and able to handle a multiplicity of responsibilities and problems not only their own, but those of their families and communities.
In this Women’s History Month exhibition at Macy’s Herald Square, we recognize the strengths of women by celebrating their advancement outside of the home, and honoring the importance of their work within it. “A Woman’s World” is anything but an either/or world.
The exhibition will be juried by Karen Marshall, a freelance photographer who specializes in documenting American social issues. Ms. Marshall teaches in the Documentary/Photojournalism Program at The International Center of Photography, at New York University, and The Maine Media Workshops. She is the recipient of artist fellowships and sponsorships through the New York Foundation for the Arts, and has worked for editorial, corporate and advertising clients for the past twenty-five years.
