The second of the three-part “Annual Exhibition: Illustrators 53,” the Book and Editorial Exhibit will be held at the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators January 26 to February 19, 2011. It featured works by leading contemporary illustrators worldwide, selected by a prestigious jury of professionals.
The Book category consists of illustrations used inside or for covers of books, including hardback and paperback books, children’s books and young adult literature, and single-image comic book art. This year, 72 images were selected from 641 submissions in this category.
Gold Medals have been awarded Anna and Elena Balbusso for Cover Northanger, Thomas Ehretsmann for Murder and Ross MacDonald for Now Billy Can Concentrate. Silver Medals have been awarded to Josh Cochran for Zombies vs. Unicorns, Alessandro Gottardo for The Perfect Joke and Peter Kuper for Yiddishkeit.
The Editorial category consists of work commissioned by newspapers or magazines, medical and scientific journals or online magazines. From the 1,037 entries in this category, 176 were chosen this year.
Gold Medals have been awarded to Steve Brodner for Reservoir Dogs, Gerald DuBois for Sacred Space and Eddie Guy for Heart . Silver Medals go to Tomer Hanuka for MGMT, Tim O'Brien for Catholic Church Scandal and Clay Rodery for Bathe. Medals will be presented to award winners during the Awards Ceremony at the Opening Reception on February 4th at the Society of Illustrators.
Among the many other artists featured in the exhibit are Philip Burke, Vivienne Flesher, Kadir Nelson,Yuko Shimizu, Edel Rodriguez, Jillian Tamaki, Sam Weber and many more!
