Gavin Brown's enterprise is pleased to present Mark Handforth’s fifth solo exhibition at the gallery.
‘I let objects collapse, and through their destruction they are transformed. So, in a sense, through their destruction they are reborn. It’s a creative act beginning with failure. In this failure things become something else-and that something else is often much more beautiful and interesting than the original.’
Mark Handforth (born 1969 in Hong Kong) grew up in London and currently works in Miami. He studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main (State College of Fine Art) and at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. His sculptures and installations have been shown at exhibitions all over the world, including at the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington (2007), Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2006), Kunsthaus Zürich (2005), the Whitney Biennial (2004), the Modern Institute, Glasgow, Galerie Eva Presenhuber, Zürich and the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2002).
