Monica Searle: The Art of the Necklace features over sixty
glittering necklaces designed by Monica Searle, painter, theater and
jewelry designer, and wife of British caricaturist Ronald Searle. The
show was originally conceived for the two-fold exhibit Searle &
Searle at the Wilhelm-Busch Museum in Hanover, Germany, a museum
devoted to fine crafts and caricatures.
The Art of the Necklace captures Searle’s fascination with
sparkling objects which, she explains, stems from her earliest
childhood. The necklaces are made from beads of all shapes, colors,
sizes and materials ranging from inexpensive plastics, glass and metals
to semi-precious crystals.
Just as the Wilhelm-Busch Museum presented the Searles’ work together, The Forbes Collection is pleased to present Monica Searle: The Art of the Necklace at the same time it exhibits Ronald Searle: A Lifetime of Drawing
(please visit the links to the Carrère and Hastings gallery in the left
hand column). Each show is a unique look at the artists’ masterful take
on their medium.
