POETRY UNLEASHED!

SPOKEN WORD PERFORMANCES, DANCE PARTY, & FUNDRAISER

FRIDAY, MAY 21, 2010

SPOKEN WORD PERFORMANCES: 7-9PM
DANCE PARTY WITH DJ: 9PM-12AM

Art for Change is excited to present an inspiring evening of spoken word performances by internationally-renowned poets Eliz Robert and Sheri-D Wilson from Montreal, local NYC poets Patrick Mathieu, Austin Alexis, Rita Hickey, John Maney, and other surprise guest performances, followed by a dance party with DJ! The group art exhibition, Subversive, exploring the seemingly “benevolent” appeal of subcultures, such as Burlesque, Ball Society, Roller Derby, and Lucha Libre, will also be on display. All event proceeds help Art for Change continue to support emerging artists and filmmakers through art exhibitions and film screenings, raise awareness of social injustice issues, inspire community activism, and offer engaging community programs such as Calle Youth Theater program, Hacia Afuera annual public arts festival, community mural projects, and kids’ arts workshops!

$20 Suggested Donation includes: Spoken Word Performances, DJ, Dancing, Open Bar, & Great Art!
