ABC No Rio honors downtown artist Valerie Caris Blitz with an exhibition of her last works. Caris Blitz died at the age of 52 on July 28, 2009, after a long illness. She was well known for her performance art and appearances in more than 40 films during the 1980s, most notably Ari Roussimoff’s Shadows of the City.
Caris Blitz was heavily involved with ABC No Rio in its early days, both performing and exhibiting paintings, including a two-person exhibition in 1988 with Carl George. One of Valerie’s last wishes was to see her final works exhibited at ABC No Rio, which she credits for her start in New York City. This exhibition will feature her select works, ephemera and film screenings.
