Denise Bibro Fine Art is pleased to present Roy Kinzer: urban self -similarity\, on view April 2 through May 9\, 2009. In his second solo exhibition at the gallery\, the artist continues to explore self-simil ar patterns occurring in nature in his urban aerial landscapes. Kinzer focu ses on the repetition of shapes and structures across different scales\, an d creates his own random fractal patterns by integrating collaged road maps with satellite-derived imagery. In his most recent work\, he has dialed up the intensity and the intricacy of his compositions. Kinzer sees himself a s a modern day Hudson River School painter\, "using perspective\, magnified scale and dramatic lighting to explore the sublime-the feeling of rapture and awe caused by the beauty and terror of nature."

Void of inhabit ants\, the work invokes isolation. Kinzer adds elements of fantasy and exag geration by disrupting the original image with scratches\, scrape marks\, a nd bleached-out light. These gestures visually tear into the repetitive fab ric of the cityscape\, eating into the surface like atmospheric disturbance s. The artist then adds layers of filigreed collaged road maps. The final p ainting is encased in multiple layers of mediums and varnish\, creating a s mooth\, flat surface.
