AXELLE FINE ARTS is thrilled to celebrate < strong>MICHEL DELACROIX’s 80th birthday in New York City with a ma jor solo exhibition\, the publication of a new book and the release of a ne w limited edition serigraph and a commemorative silk scarf. Michel Delacroi x\, renowned master of the Naïf tradition\, has been working over 50 years in his signature style producing cityscapes set in the Paris of his childho od- a simpler\, quieter Paris of the past. This new collection\, his 17th s olo exhibition\, features exquisite recent paintings from sweeping skylines of the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame to snow covered romantic Parisian stree ts.  Delacroix’s work resonates strongly because he is a painter of superb skill and infuses his work with a deep affection and understanding for his city. “I see and paint a Paris everyone wishes to recall and savor\,” he sa ys. In his newest exhibition\, Michel Delacroix has certainly created a Par is to remember.

Michel Delacroix was born in Paris’ 14th District i n 1933. After studying two years at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris\, Dela croix temporarily interrupted his formal education to explore the city. “I walked endlessly from district to district\, inspecting every corner and ab sorbing all the nuances accumulating an endless store of impressions to dra w upon for my paintings\,” he stated. Delacroix returned to complete his st udies and continued to paint\, eventually developing his mastery over the N aïf style. Early on\, his works became renowned for their expressive and ma gical depictions of Paris. The enthusiasm of his collectors provides ample evidence they share and support Delacroix’s love of the city.

Throu ghout the course of his 60 year career\, Delacroix has been honored with nu merous awards including the Grand Prix des Amateurs d’Art\, Paris\, the Gra nd Prix de la Cote d’Azur\, Cannes and the Premier Prix de Sept Collines\, Roma. His work can be found in prestigious private and public collections i ncluding the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain and the Musée International d’Art Naïf\, both in Paris\, and in Lausanne’s Olympic Museum in Switzerlan d. He has executed several prestigious commissions\, including those for th e 1996 Centennial Olympic Games\, 1998 World Cup\, and the White House Chri stmas Pageant of Peace. Delacroix has enjoyed over 300 exhibitions in the U nited States alone. Today Michel is a French ex-patriot living in Cambodia with his wife\, Vany. He enjoys his children and grandchildren\, and contin ues to paint\, visiting his beloved Paris often. He will return to New York City in December for the opening reception of this show and to celebrate h is 80th birthday with Axelle Fine Arts.
