Rogowski’s photographs explore the language and sensibilities that surround the drive behind and c onstructs of personal improvement\, showing how the ever-thriving genre of "self help" acts as a portrait for the modern condition. By thematically gr ouping and arranging the spines and title pages of self-improvement publica tions—Hours of Power\; Don’t Send Me Any Rainbows\; Yes\, I Am Happy Now—Ro gowski charts the course of nearly every human emotion and experience. Patt erns and contradictions emerge as the eye weaves through each title\, morph ing from linear to circular narrative and back again—am I beginning\, endin g\, or is it the beginning of the end? The viewer is left with the lasting question of what it means in our society to confront pain and crisis. In th e fragility of heightened emotions\, what are the commonalities and bonds w ithin myriad philosophies and varying vernacular? Choosing photography\, Ro gowski condenses hundreds of books into a singular dimension and entity\, f lattening the individual experience that is at the heart of the self help m ovement. Unifying the sprawling medium\, Rogowski creates a frank and harmo nizing investigation into the many fragments within the human experience.

Gallery founder Jen Bekman notes:

He re\, Kent lays out the thorny world of “self help\,” that dirty\, open secr et\; he’s giving us permission to pay close attention to something that we normally wouldn’t be caught dead diving into in public. And characteristica lly\, he takes a scientific approach to trying to unravel the beautiful mes s that is our psyches. Kent is an artist on an earnest expedition for meani ng and what he ends up doing is celebrating this similar pursuit in all of us.
