Human Weathervane

One of the beauties of living in a city for a long time is that you get to know its rituals.  Life, and the people who come with it, can be wonderfully predictable.  There is a sense of purpose and direction in these rituals that we invent, and they allow each of us to mark the passage of time with a quiet sense of destiny.

Meet the human weathervane!  She appears each year on the first sunny day of spring, just outside the Jeu de Paume in the Tuileries garden.  Perched in her green chair, writing away, her appearance marks that exciting move from winter to spring. from the interior life to the exterior life.

Long live rituals.
