I use photography instead of drawing as the foundation for paintings. When I realized I would never equal the draughtsmanship of Raphael or Rubens, this was a natural choice. Using the camera also allows one to capture the figure, especially in motion, in a spontaneous way that cannot be achieved by drawing. Painting in this manner gives more creative freedom than photography or painting alone, and results in a different view of reality.
