Hoarding, Amassing and Excess
This exhibition explores the psychological, sociological, and artistic
impulses for accumulation, horror vacui, berserk collecting, and excessive
The NIU Art museum is currently accepting submissions in all media. This
call is open to all artists in the United States 18 years of age or older.
Submitted artwork must be handleable by two people and fit through a
single door (36” wide x 84” tall).
$30.00. Checks made out to NIU in US dollars are the only form of payment
we can currently accept. Submissions that arrive without a fee will not be

relevant to these thematic exhibitions. Examples of past programming
(bus trips, artist lectures, workshops and film series, etc…) can be found on

Please include an introductory cover letter, with your contact information
(name, address, phone, email). Also include a brief written statement
about how each piece fits the theme.
Submit 1 - 5 images (plus details of each as necessary), in jpeg format,
300 dpi, 1500 pixels on the smallest side. The filename for each image
should include the artist’s last name and title (i.e., LastnameTitle.jpg). Do
not imbed images within a photo program (i.e., Power Point, iPhoto, etc.).
CD’s must be labeled neatly with the artist’s first and last name.
Video footage and/or documentation of performances may be
submitted on DVD, again with an accompanying printed description of
the material. DVD’s must be labeled neatly with the artist’s first and last
Images must be accompanied by a typewritten image list, which includes
artist’s first and last name, title, date, dimensions, media of the work, and
insurance value. Please also include a printed contact sheet of labeled
images. Please include an appropriately sized SASE if you wish your
materials to be returned to you.

CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE:
Artwork must arrive at the museum ready for exhibition. All accepted
work must remain on display for the full duration of the exhibitions.
Hoarding, Amassing and Excess will run from March 25, 2014 through May
23, 2014. Please consider any potentially conflicting commitments with
your work before making your selections for submission.
The NIU Art Museum reserves the right to maintain its established
professional standards when selecting work for any exhibitions. To that end,
the Museum reserves the right to accept any number of applicants, or none
at all. The Museum reserves the right not to exhibit accepted work that
differs significantly from images initially submitted. Examples of past

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE:
Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than October 31, 2013.
The NIU Art Museum will provide insured return shipping after the
exhibition; insured shipping to the NIU Art Museum is the responsibility of
