..must... try... to think...

Women make men stupid

According to recent research at the Behavioral Science Institute, Nijmegen, Netherlands, the mere anticipation of an interaction with a woman can impair men’s cognitive performance. Research has previously stated that face-to-face encounters between heterosexual women and men result in men’s impaired cognitive performance (Karremans et al. 2009), but these recent studies show us that a mere anticipation of interaction causes men to perform dramatically worse on basic cognitive tests.  This means that the man can’t concentrate properly when expecting a virtual interaction with a woman, without any information regarding the woman’s age or looks.

There is not much "brain space" left when the cognitive resources are dedicated to extensively monitoring and strategically adjusting verbal and nonverbal behavior, which is two important aspects of impression management. The women who participated in the studies were not cognitively distracted to the same extent by the fact that they might encounter a man later on in the experiment.

“She smiled at me, I think she wants me”

Men are also frequently overprecieving women’s sexual intent (Haselton, 2003).

In Haselton’s paper “The sexual overperception bias: Evidence of a systematic bias in men from a survey” we read the story about 13 employees of the Safeway supermarket chain, 12 of them women, who experienced great difficulties at work due to the ‘‘service-with-smile’’ policy. The male customers frequently got the wrong message, which resulted in uncomfortable situations.

If the man is not stupid already, he will become temporarily stupid if he finds you attractive, and don’t smile unless you want him or want him to think that you do...
