Remember two weeks ago when it felt like the 2011 summer we didn’t have had finally arrived (if only a few months late)? I visited galleries wearing shorts. Shorts! That was nice. Helaas, mid-October brings us back to reality, and you might want to bring a few more layers to attend these anticipated openings. Happy art watching!
“The Lower Depths” is Nik Christensen’s third solo show at Gabriel Rolt. His signature black and white works in ink, which are often inspired by cinema and literature, are now on a larger scale than ever. October 22 – November 19.
Nieuw Dakota presents “Stirring”, a group show comprising works by three young American artists, Ana Cardoso, Alex Hubbard, and Jon Pestoni. Their works will be framed by that of European artists whom they take as inspiration, including Carla Accardi, John Armleder, Martin Barre, Imi Knoebel and Arnulf Rainer. October 23 – December 11.
For something different, check out Alexander Blank’s new jewelry, which explores the loss of youth by imagining the skulls of our favorite cartoon characters. At Rob Koudijs. October 22 – December 3.
Guido van der Werve, maker of surreal and episodic films, exhibits “Emotional Poverty” at Juliette Jongma. October 29 – December 17.
Kunstverein presents The Robert Wilhite Store for Art and Design, featuring all facets of the Californian artist’s practice, including diagonal tables, flatware, drawings, paintings, sculptures, and instruments. October 29, 2011 – February 4, 2012. Opening October 28, 18.00 – 20.00.
Joep van Liefland, known for his multimedia works (most recently featuring outdated technology like analog video), presents Universum 465 at Martin van Zomeren. October 29 – November 23.
Ron Mandos highlights the local talent of six Rijksacademie alumni represented by the gallery. Featuring Hans op de Beeck, Jacco Olivier, Inti Hernandez, Maurice van Tellingen, Arthur Kleinjan, and Maurice Braspenning. October 29 – December 3.
