Early October Picks

After September’s long-awaited gallery openings inaugurated the Fall art season, it’s hard to believe that round two begins already! The first half of October kicks off the latest cycle of Amsterdam exhibitions, and there’s a lot to look forward to. Get excited about some of the shows highlighted below and be sure to check back in later this month to see what the second half of October has in store.


At P/////AKT Derk Thijs & Chris Brans present Dah osla Dothem (Where time has lost its relevance I), a collaborative installation comprising sixty tree trunks. October 8 – November 6, Opening October 8, 20.00 - 24.00

The imaginative Brooklynite, Matthew Day Jackson, gets Heel Gezellig at both of Grimm’s Amsterdam galleries. October 6 - November 20

Armen Eloyan shows his absurd paintings and cartoonish drawings in End of Summer, Beginning of Autumn at Upstream Gallery. October 8 – November 12, Opening October 8, 17.00 - 19.30

ZINGERpresents is showing part two of Julie Verhoeven’s Gluteus Maximus, this part entitled “Her Indoors.” October 8 – Novemeber 5, with a private viewing October 8, 17.30 - 20.30

Spectres is both a film essay exploring Belgium’s colonial history and the title of Sven Augustijnen’s solo exhibition at De Appel. October 15, 2011 – February 12, 2012, Opening October 14, from 18.00

Slewe presents Günter Tuzina’s minimal canvases. October 15 – November 12, Opening October 15, 17.00 - 19.00

Interdisciplinary artist, Louwrien Wijers (known for her interviews-as-art) has a solo exhibition at Galerie van Gelder. October 15 – November 23

Akinci shows new works by Stephan Balkenhol known for his brightly colored wooden portraits. October 15 – November 19, Opening October 15, 17.00 - 19.00
