In a socio-architectural lark that would make many an illustrious twentieth century cultural theorist proud, The Claremont Museum of Art resides in a mall that is in turn a converted lemon packing plant. Pause. Yet beyond its incidental credentials, this off-the-art-world-beaten-path museum benefits from a genuine curatorial vision-- namely that of Pilar Tompkins, who has organized group shows featuring Won Ju Lim and Elaine Buckholtz for the space and this September will organize Multiverse, which will include the likes of Diana Thater and Fred Tomaselli.
