With the Picasso Museum now closed for at least two years of renovations, the Marais has to find another go-to gallery for the Sunday afternoon promenade. In the spirit of Fabrice Gygi, the Musée des Arts et Métiers offers an impressive collection of scientific and industrial displays that are both beautiful, and well, actually useful.
Open until 9:30pm on Thursday – try to find another French public institution that stays open this late, they’ve even got the beat the Pompidou by 30 minutes – it’s possible to stroll through the former monastery and 11th century church, and see Pascal’s calculator, machines from the Industrial Revolution, and a giant pendulum that, although it seems unmoving, is measuring the slow tilting of the earth.
