20130330205904-_mg_2559 Jacob Williams: Nightmare of the Haunted Buddha
by
Jacob Williams at Diesel Denim Gallery February 4th, 2006 - April 2nd, 2006
Posted 3/31/13

by Ami Kealoha in Culture on 23 February 2006 Brooklyn-based artist Jacob Williams' day-glo psychedelia already looks like a trip through a Disneyland ride on drugs, which makes Tim Regan's recent video piece (created to announce the opening reception for Williams' solo installation "Nightmare of the Haunted Buddha") a natural fit. Set to a dramatic Psycho-esque soundtrack, the animation sets Williams' mountains, wild-haired women, and panthers in motion, which nicely establishes... [more]

20121012193126-wodiczko_lincoln_war_veteran_projection This is best installation in public parks ever!
by
Krzysztof Wodiczko at Galerie Lelong November 8th, 2012 - November 8th, 2012
Posted 11/20/12

Krzysztof Wodiczko's Abraham Lincoln: War Veteran Projection is the best public space installation in 2012, this is a must see! You can get a few minutes of a quick documentation at https://vimeo.com/53446621 but I suggest viewing the installation live. Like all of Wodiczko's work, this installation is politically charged, moving and mesmerizing. The brilliance is behind the images of 14 war veternas from Vietnam, Afganistan and Iraq, projected  onto the cold bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln. As... [more]

Jennifer Steinkamp at Lehmann Maupin - 26th St. September 10th, 2010 - October 23rd, 2010

Jennifer Steinkamp at Lehmann Maupin Gallery, New York I am not a big fan of video as an art but occasionally, I would be very taken by some hypnotic video art, such as those by William Kentridge or Shirin Neshat. My visit to Lehmann Maupin Gallery in Chelsea, New York belonged to this selective category. The time I visited the gallery, it featured videos by Jennifer Steinkamp, whose large scale of videos of ever mutating mass of plastic tubes or foliages were in turn mysterious, se... [more]

Cognition Factor by Propaganda Anonymous "Cognition Factor" is the brainchild of the South African filmmaker and cyberpunk Mike Kawitzky. In 64 minutes of documentary Katwitzky manages to evoke some intriguing thoughts from roughly twenty great thinkers revolving around five questions; Is humanity evolving towards something higher or are we doomed to extinction? What is consciousness? Is God a myth? Will a fusion between science and spiritually occur? and What happens when we die? Among th... [more]

By ALISON GREGOR Published: May 8, 2009 AN art show is about to transform the empty spaces of One Brooklyn Bridge Park, and if Mary Mihelic, a real estate agent and artist, has her way, some art lovers — and artworks — will find permanent homes there. From Scope, where San Francisco art dealer Andrei Rozanoff eventually joined our troupe, we headed over to Pier 94 for The Armory Showcontemporary fair was being held. I only saw one San Francisco gallery,Ratio 3, which was showing several artists, including Ruth Laskey (below): Photography by New York artist Ryan McGinley (below) were also on display: Recent SFMOMA SECA award winner Jordan Kantor (below) als... After the Armory Show (and some much needed sustenance) we headed down to Pier 40 for Pulse New York. In terms of tracking down San Francisco galleries participating in the shows in New York, I hit the jackpot.   Baer Ridgeway Exhibitions was showing several local Bay Area artists, including Brion Nuda Rosch (above) and Clare Rojas (below): Work by Chris Duncan (below) was also on display: My personal heritage obliged me to stop at the Lena & Roselli Gallerybooth, apparently the only Hungarian gallery at New Yorks contemporary art fairs: The gallery...
