KATHERINE PETITTI KORNEL at ATELIER - 635 W42nd Street June 18th, 2009 - October 18th, 2009

Sparkly glimmers of light, high energy swipes of luminous paint and whimsical red, yellow and purple watercolor droplets—that’s what you’ll see at this uplifting painting exhibit. “Organic Impressions.” The show can be viewed until October 18, 2009 in the lobby of The Atelier, 635 West 42nd Street. This is a special New York City opportunity. While enjoying the vivid oils, watercolors and mixed media, feel good about the show’s cause—to help inner-city kids with special needs.... [more]

By ALISON GREGOR Published: May 8, 2009 AN art show is about to transform the empty spaces of One Brooklyn Bridge Park, and if Mary Mihelic, a real estate agent and artist, has her way, some art lovers — and artworks — will find permanent homes there. Ms. Mihelic, an agent at Stribling & Associates with a master of fine arts degree from Parsons the New School for Design, is the curator of the art show, cheekily called “spctclr vws.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/10/realestate/10posting.h... Aiko_lovemonstercomeagain-460x462 Remarkable Maturation of A Former Collective Member
by
Aiko Nakagawa at Joshua Liner Gallery April 18th, 2009 - May 16th, 2009
Posted 4/20/09

THERE'S ALWAYS A CONFLICT when an artist starts out from a collective of peers that, well, "collectively" work, and then moves on to build a solo career. It's true in music, theatre groups, and it's also true in fine art. The newly independent artist struggles to find her or his own voice, while the remaining members of a group can't help but feel left behind, even if they achieve their own success regardless, especially when the former partner walks alright on her or his own feet. Since her depar... [more]

2 Surface Stitches

Michael Raedecker at Andrea Rosen Gallery March 14th, 2009 - April 18th, 2009

Simple large washed canvasses with embroidery stitched through the surface. Throughout there is a feeling of fog, air so heavy it can be stitched through. “Superficial”  is a detail of a dining room table. The knife and fork fall through the foreground and the subtle chromatic details of the tablecloth keep it lively. “Hang”  is by far my favorite, wispy windblown and forlorn. Bittersweet fluttering clothes hang loose from the drying lines and drift in the thick stormy air. Some of th... [more]

Arteaser at NY Art Fairs: Pulse

After the Armory Show (and some much needed sustenance) we headed down to Pier 40 for Pulse New York. In terms of tracking down San Francisco galleries participating in the shows in New York, I hit the jackpot.   Baer Ridgeway Exhibitions was showing several local Bay Area artists, including Brion Nuda Rosch (above) and Clare Rojas (below): Work by Chris Duncan (below) was also on display: My personal heritage obliged me to stop at the Lena & Roselli Gallerybooth, apparently the only Hungarian gallery at New Yorks contemporary art fairs: The gallery...
