(Image: Heather Rivera, The King is Dead, Long Live the King!,  Photography - Digital ; © Heather Rivera)   Heather Rivera (b. 1977, Port Jefferson, NY) I love taking photographs of things people see every day and putting a new twist on them. I like to give my viewers a new perspective through my lens, this way everyone gets the chance to look at the world the way an artist does. I feel that schooling has nothing to do with the ability to tell a story or make great art, all one truly needs is motivation and creat... [more]

20121012193126-wodiczko_lincoln_war_veteran_projection This is best installation in public parks ever!
by
Krzysztof Wodiczko at Galerie Lelong November 8th, 2012 - November 8th, 2012
Posted 11/20/12

Krzysztof Wodiczko's Abraham Lincoln: War Veteran Projection is the best public space installation in 2012, this is a must see! You can get a few minutes of a quick documentation at https://vimeo.com/53446621 but I suggest viewing the installation live. Like all of Wodiczko's work, this installation is politically charged, moving and mesmerizing. The brilliance is behind the images of 14 war veternas from Vietnam, Afganistan and Iraq, projected  onto the cold bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln. As... [more]

(Image: Evan Lavine, Falling, Digital Photography,10x10 Inches; © Evan Lavine)   Evan Lavine (b. Long Island, NY) My photography takes a closer look at everyday instances that sometimes go by without notice. With my camera I am able to slow down and capture a single moment, deconstruct it from contextual references and then retell an interestingly layered story with one frame.  These stories are told through the medium of  abstraction, defocusing the lens and most recently – long exposures in b... I use painting and photography interchangeably to inform the other relative to my interest in iconography, people, objects and artifacts in the American landscape.    I live in the Hudson River Valley, NY, a region closely associated with the Hudson River School of Landscape Painting, whi... The twenty-five years  I have spent photographing have been devoted to refining my vision and improving my practice of the craft that helps create a photographic print. The universe is not constant, and light, which makes... [more]

NORTH KOREA BEYOND IMAGES by Shota Ogawa Military marches, missiles on display, and elite leaders in dark green “workers’ clothes”: images of North Korea seem ubiquitous in our media culture. Yet the opacity of the reclusive country continues to work up a thirst for more images. Photojournalistic exhibitions promise to sooth our thirst with intimate ‘inside views’ of North Korea, but giving visibility to an already hypervisible subject can only aggravate our thirst. POWER GAMES, currently in... [more]

(Image: Shelly Kay, The other side, 2012; © Shelly Kay) Shelly Kay (b. 1974, Washington, USA) I am a completely self-taught photographer. I have never had any formal training & I actually love that. For me, I simply shoot what I see, but more importantly what I feel. The love I have for "my city" is unconditional. Much of my work is urban, but a lot of it speaks as a personal diary as well. If I am having a bad day, I shoot it. I take self-portraits of myself and that helps purge out my p... [more]

(Image:Sara Greenberger Rafferty, Viewer, 2011, print; © Sara Greenberger Rafferty) Sara Greenberger Rafferty (b. Chicago, Illinois) In this print, Greenberger Rafferty intervenes in a still of Madeline Kahn with stains reminiscent of blood, saliva and tears, and pencil lines that trace a pair of glasses around the actress's obscured eyes. The resulting image, decidedly ghostly, hovers between photography, collage and watercolor. Sara Greenberger Rafferty's work is inspired by myriad sources, includi... [more]
