Hello frends! I am an artist. My roots take place in St.Petersburg, which has great architecture, culture and history that influenced me once and forever. Mary is a woman who arrived in my town from Chicago via the Amtrack. Who my son, Bupito, and I tried to pass with our stroller. Who said, hello, and in a matter of steps we were walking together, helping each other. Mary had been pulling a suitcase in one hand and carrying a cane in the other. She was slight, yet able and dressed sharp. Do you know where a Starbucks is? she asked me. I began to give her directions but mid-sentence asked, Would you mind walking with us and we'll show you the way?... [more]
Back Story to My Inquiry in to Translation and the Birth of Ava
It all began with a conversation. Last winter, I was fortunate enough to have an incredible discussion with Lydia Davis after she lectured for our class in my graduate program at CalArts. The topic of translation arose, and she asked if I had ever translated anything. I said no, but when I am bored while reading academic texts I translate them in to French in my head. She looked at me with a very serious expression and told me that I m... [more]
TLV CBS is an interactive new media project that takes place in Tel Aviv's central bus station. It is comprised of short videos documenting scenes from the various stores and spaces within the station exhibiting a fascinating, somewhat surreal, tapestry of human connections.
The project is experienced while traveling through the station and scanning QR codes placed near the spaces' numbered doors. The codes lead to videos related to the specific location in which the viewer is standing.
To absorb every word
Inhaling each sound
As if it were the last
To be ingrained
The dark corners of my mind
The tears come after
Once their resonance
Pierces my eyes
My heart unfolds
The ground moves
And the aftermath
Settles in to my veins
A deafening silence
Submerges my lungs
Once the words
Begin to fade
Yet their volatile
Rhythm will not leave—
It swarms and sways
Never failing to create
The timeless agony

Outside, the frigid night air pounced on him, slipping its icy tendrils through the loose seams of his coat and chilling him to the bone. Already he could feel stiffness settling into his joints, and the pain that lay dormant in in his knees and hips coming alive, awakened by the cold. It would be a long, achy night, but he’d never let that stop him before. Defiantly, the old man yanked the flaps of his furry Russian-style hat further do... [more]
