What is the promise of a vacant warehouse? The easily romanticized notion is being realized by a two-year, rent-free contract for a 20,000 sq ft complex in downtown Miami at the site of the former Capt. Harry’s Fishing Supply. Inaugurated September of 2012, the arrangement is a product of nearly a year of conversation and negotiations between the independent entities of Dimensions Variable (DV), Bas Fisher Invitational, Turn-based Press and the TM Sisters, all Miami-based artist collectives/initiativ... self-organization (part 2)

On Sunday night I realized that there are just too many art related things for me to keep in mind. So I put down all the painting I'm currently working at. These are 4: Madona's portrait, still-life with irises, my repro of "Straw Hat" by Theo van Rysselberghe and the portrait of a sitting man I do at the Academy. I also scheduled the time for each activity during this week. And happy to say that I'm in line with this schedule which adds up more positive emotions to my everyday life! (*smile*) [more]

Last week I found an art studio for me! Yay! This studio is a part of National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture. Fortunately it is only 20 minutes walk from my house. So I do enjoy every spring moment now)) Everything happened really fast: I phoned them in the morning, came to fill in the applecation after lunch and found myself in the class within 15 minutes! (*smile*) Our first task was to draw a sitting man. And frankly, I failed to do it correctly. The tutor intentionally didn't interfere... [more]

piece of advice

Last Friday I went to the Ukrainian Republican House of Painters to joint their art studio. I took "My first real thing" and water-color as the samples of my works. Heh, I was rejected. And the reason was - I was copying and not painting. And if I want to become a real painter I should forget about copying from photographs immediately. Might be great that I didn't join this studio (*smile*) [more]
