joshua tree highlands artist residency

I spent an awesome three weeks in the desert in Joshua Tree.  Fred Fulmer and Jim Berg have a great program. They provided me with an amazing space to work and an amazing place to live.  It was right at the base of Joshua Tree National Park.  Joshua Tree National Park has the most unbelievable rocks. They were formed by erosion and resemble sculptures by Henry Moore.  The people I met were so friendly. Steve and Ruth Rieman were instrumental in introducing me to the other artists and local residents who are part of the residency community.  It was a great dinner and very informative. Steve and Ruth are truly artists in spirit and in practice. Their property looks like it came right out of the movies. I am grateful to them for introducing me to the other artists and to the other residents in the community who support the residency.  Juanita Jimeniz, a terrific artist and ceramist  invited us to her house the next day. It is truly gorgeous. It was like driving up to a Richard Sera sculpture. But, more importantly, she was just as friendly and hospitable as Ruth and Steve. It was a terrific evening.  The next day, she took me to Tina Bluefields studio to talk to her about her work.  It is also terrific.  I did not want to go home.  My work will be posted on my website, marciafreedman.com as soon as I have it photographed .
