Institutionally Chapel of the Chimes is a nonsectarian mausoleum, crematorium and mortuary that has served the bay area for almost a 100 years. Inside extends a city block and a half and is a maze of gardens, cloisters, alcoves, stair wells, fountains and chapels rising into vaulted ceilings and illuminated by dazzling natural light. Julia filled it with antiquities from the 16th century and worked with local artisans to create this masterpiece. Winter through summer outside there are cherry trees, dogwood and rockrose and inside there are is an incredible botanical paradise of a score of gardens with 20 foot tall palms.
