Blankspace is an artist-run contemporary art gallery in Oakland, California with a focus on exhibiting emerging artists in a wide range of media. Blankspace seeks to foster solid relationships with artists, collectors, non-profit spaces and other contemporary art galleries in the hopes of expanding the Bay Area arts community. In addition to visual art, Blankspace is host to a series of one-night events catered to time-based media such as music, film and video.
The gallery is comprised of a main exhibition space and a small front space devoted to an eclectic mix of original artist-made goods and serial pieces.
Co-directors Jason Byers and Kerri Johnson have lived in the Bay Area since 1997. Jason received his MFA from UC Berkeley in 1999 and has exhibited at Linc Art, Southern Exposure, Refusalon and Lucky Tackle. Kerri received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003 and has exhibited her work at CSAW Gallery in Houston, Cricket Engine, Lucky Tackle and the Elevator Gallery in Toronto.
