BBEdit syntax coloring
Meta: haven’t done a good old geek post on the MTAA-RR in a while… I really want to go back to using BBEdit. Overall, it’s better than TextMate (especially the search). But it’s got this syntax coloring problem when editing JS in the head of an HTML page that DRIVES. ME. NUTS. Is pictured below: BBEdit 9 is a better than the previous version, but it gets tripped up on parans in the string if you put a forward slash in it as well (if you take the parans out it works correctly)...

Mary Jo, Carla, Natalie, EllenYou know that I've always said, Granny Squares are the building blocks to fashion. Well, granny squares and all other types of squares can also be the building blocks to love. I'm so proud of my friends of the West Hollywood Stitch 'n Bitch in addition to members of the Santa Monica Fairview Knitters for contributing squares for two beautiful comfortghans for Frank and Oliver. The other day, angelic messengers Carla and Natalie gifted Frank and Oliver with the completed afghans. You...

More on the Sotheby's-Minor Suit
The New York Times has more today on the dispute between Sotheby's and Cnet founder Halsey Minor, which I mentioned earlier this week.I've also heard directly from Minor, who gave me permission to print the following email:"Sotheby’s is spending all their time talking about what I said at this time or at that time or why I didn’t have the money, etc, etc. Why would they or anyone care? It’s just a lot of noise that is irrelevant. The only actual fact is they did not get the money."They of...

The End is the Beginning
FROGATE UPDATE Artforum.com reports in its International New Digest that according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung the Pope in fact did not in fact condemn Martin Kippenberger's Fred the Frog sculpture. "The statement that allegedly came from the pope was in fact a response from the Vatican’s state secretary to a letter from Pahl." Readers will of course remeber Pahl as the local magistrate that went on a hunger strike in protest of the Kippenberger work until he passed out.---WEEKENDERS ON OUR OWNWhile the wreckers of civili...

Kitaj saw a card gripped in my hand of my painting, A Walk with Ganesh, and he started our brief conversation saying, “Is that for me? I would like to have that.” I handed him the card and watched him examine the image of the painting in his hands, and then my face as we talk...

Futility and waste
The final paragraph of this story from the Berlin Jewish Museum just about sums up the horror and waste of the holocaust: "Yva, who grew up in an assimilated Jewish family, was forced to close her atelier in 1938 due to the work prohibition imposed by the Nazis. She then worked as an X-ray assistant in the Jewish hospital before she and her husband were arrested, deported, and murdered in 1942."Jewish Museum Berlin - A Vintage Print by YvaThe photographic collection of the Jewish Museum Berlin has acquired a new exhibit of considerable significance: The vintage print "Amor Shin" by the...

The Hirstian knot
Damien Hirst’s decision to sell 223 new pieces direct to auction at Sotheby’s on 15 and 16 September represents the breaking of an unwritten rule: thou shalt not defile your dealer. While threatening the very gallery system that helped to make him a household name by selling his work in the first place (and supposedly nurturing and protecting his interests too), Hirst’s solo venture simultaneously slopes the playing field firmly in favour of the artist. He’s not only temporarily freed himse...

I’m pretty excited to announce that out of the plethora of answers to the game I posted, nobody got all the answers right. A Song for Europe
It began with a song – A Song for Europe. At an empty café, a singer recollects a faded love affair, projecting loss in elegiac melody. Remembering “moments lost in wonder that we’ll never find again,” he realizes how his world has become “a shell full of memories.” He has nothing to share with his now forsaken love except “yesterday,” his obsessive reveries doom him to retrace an endless past, trapped in the decadent European settings that now only mimic romance.More than homage...
