79 Gallery will be presenting the work of Annie Abbott, Erin Wapple, Claudia Rilling and Virginia Coleman. Interested in the visceral energy that simple shapes carry, Abbott begins her paintings intuitively with a loose line drawing to manifest the movement and constant flux of shapes around us. Also beginning with loose line drawings, Wapple’s abstract paintings play with the juxtaposition between spontaneity and control, chaos and simplicity. Rilling’s shared interest in the balance of simplicity and vibrancy is evident in her carefully composed intervals of light, planes and forms. Using a more three-dimensional process, Coleman incorporates metal into her paintings to create a dynamic amalgamation of architecture, classical painting and sculpture.
