Hyde Street Gallery is proud to present Moments in Black and White: A Photographic Exhibition with Robert Stivers and Samuel Frost. The opening reception is September 10, 2009 from 5-7pm.
Stivers was named the international top nude photographer by Rotovision. His out of focus photography technique has separated him as a unique and innovative photographer. It has become his way to express loss, memory, rapture, eroticism, death, and rebirth. The photographs are dreamlike and heavily manipulated in the traditional darkroom. Arches, 1999, C-Print, 24x20", demonstrates Stivers's ghostly and spiritualistic character. The viewer is forced to imagine walking through a romantically mysterious passageway. Through neutral backgrounds and out of focus subjects, Stivers is able capture his audience in a way no other contemporary photographer can.
Samuel Frost is a 5th generation artist. With his father being a former teacher at The San Francisco Art Institute and his mother a trained artist, Sam's childhood was spent growing up in galleries and museums. The UC Berkeley graduate strives to make photographs from a place of pure and genuine curiosity. Traveling the world, each image combines complete presence, patience, and lack of mind. The physical manifestation of a meditation experience. Frost is currently living in Los Angeles pursuing a career in fine art and architectual photography.
