Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy is about the understandings, misunderstanding, conflicts, humour, loves, eroticisms, deviance, structures of power, doubts and dilemmas, surrounding the word queer (as a noun, adjective and verb), and the subject of body politics and identity framed around sexuality, culture and countercultures. A look at the passive/active queering of subject that is self initiated and empowering as well as problematic and marginalising.
The show is about activating and including multiple audiences in a visual, conversation about how we look, exchange ideas and comment on sexuality. About processes of othering and of reclaiming, both within and outside LGBT communities, and, of course a sharing of personal experiences. We want diverse aesthetics and subject matter to dialogue, across communities, generations, and artistic sensibilities. So the show, despite its particular focus on sexuality in this way, is an entry point, rather than an attempt to survey or define anything or anyone.
