EDICOLA HOSTS SECOND PROJECT LAUNCH ON MARKET STREET

Central Market Street Revitalization Program Brings Artist Books and Prints to Mid-Market

San Francisco, Calif. – Aug. 1, 2012 – Edicola, a newsstand selling independently printed books, magazines, and other artwork will host its second project launch on August 16 at 7pm, on Market Street. As part of its mission to provide a platform for emerging artists, the newsstand, founded by Carissa Potter and Luca Antonucci of Colpa Press, will launch a poetry zine written by Vanessa Hope and designed by Tim Belonax.

The poems in the collection, Push Bright in Vigor, range from expressions of love couched in heavy machinery and grammatical conventions; phonic explorations influenced by L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E poetry; and odes to artists. The design of the collection reflects the singularity of each piece through the selection of materials and typographies, while at the same time augmenting the tactics of visually-considered writing.

“Edicola was created to challenge the state of publishing, and it is supported by a community committed to bringing art to the mid-market district,” explains Carissa Potter. “I can’t think of a more lovely way to illustrate both of these missions than bringing people together to listen to poetry on the sidewalk, while celebrating something that is handmade, and created by San Franciscans.”
