Who We Are:
AABier is an ongoing collaboration between the sisters, Adina Bier and Arielle Bier. We have been living and working together in Brooklyn since 2008, and now in Berlin, Germany, producing durational performances and installation projects including hand-made costuming and sculptural objects. Our intimate bond as sisters with a shared past and present is a catalyst for the performance work we create-exploring the notions of creature comforts, trauma, the body as object, pop-culture influences, and flight of the imagination. As performance artists, we use our bodies as tools for expression. The projects we create are often physically demanding and founded on our strong performative presence as a duo.
Arielle Bier received her MFA from ICP-Bard College in 2011 and received her BA from New York University in 2005. Adina Bier received her BFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University in 2007, and is a 2013 candidate for her MFA at Transart Institute in cooperation with the University of Plymouth, UK.
In 2010/11 AABier have performed in various venues and galleries including, MEME Gallery, Cambridge, MA, Fountain Art Fair NYC, Maximum Perception Performance Art Festival, English Kills Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, Fountain Art Fair Miami, FL, LUMEN Art Festival, Staten Island, NY, Grace Exhibition Space, Brooklyn, NY, and Alice Chilton Gallery, Brooklyn, NY. AABier has performed internationally in Berlin, Germany and also in Italy, with a collaborative project, Swimming Cities of Serenissima, during the Biennale di Venezia in 2009
