What do you get when two artists go into real estate?   

Space.

 "SITE" gives emerging artists 15,000 square feet in Soho.

Artists/real estate professionals Caridad Sola and Mary Mihelic have obtained the use of 100 Vandam in Soho for emerging artist group shows. Chris Gratto of Beck Street Capital explains, "We have a great space that is temporarily available. I thought it would be nice if we could use it to help emerging artists gain some exposure."

 He connected with colleague Caridad Sola at the moment her friend Mary Mihelic was looking for space to hold group shows and everything fell into place. The three are now working outside the system and building on the history of alternative space to provide artists with a new venue; one that plays off the art communities sometimes inspirational, sometimes frustrating relationship with real estate. The result is "SITE": a series of one-night group art events that will be held over the course of the next year.

Sola continues, "In addition, if a work sells, the artists will receive 100% of the proceeds.  It's a way to help them get started. There will also be a heavy focus on site specific installation and performance pieces that are impossible to sell." 

Mihelic and Sola previously organized and curated "Art and Medicine" in Chicago.  "The nice thing about SITE is that all of a sudden artists are motivated to make new work.  There is nothing more exciting than the opportunity to show in New York City.  We inspired them," concludes Mihelic.   

This month, SITE is schedule for Thursday - May 8^th from 7 to 11pm. 100 Vandam Street. (cross street: Greenwich)
