THE PRESIDIO WINERY PROUDLY PRESENTS "THE ROCK & ROLL TASTING ROOM"

SATURDAY, JUNE 18TH, 2011, SOLVANG, CALIF.

"Moments in Rock 'n' Roll History Captured on Film": A Special Wine Tasting & Gallery Event, Featuring The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection

The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection, a fantastic treasure trove of recently rediscovered vintage photographs from the archives of legendary rock 'n' roll photographer Chuck Boyd (1942 -1991), will be on public display through the summer at the Presidio Winery tasting room, 1603 Copenhagen Drive #1, in the heart of Solvang, California.  The location is at the corner of Mission Drive (Hwy 246) and Atterdag Street. For directions, visit the winery website at www.presidiowinery.com, or call (805) 693-8585. The Tasting Room is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.

The winery will host a special "Rock & Roll Tasting Room" event, to be held on Saturday, June 18th, 2011. In addition to the thirteen photographs that form the core of the ongoing display, specially selected images will join the Solvang collection for this mid-June celebration, making for a total of twenty framed works. All photographs are limited-edition, black and white, 16x20 fine art prints that have been framed to conservation standards and are available for purchase.

The thirteen core images, referred to above, are photographs of John Phillips, Michelle Phillips, Jackson Browne, Carlos Santana, Grace Slick, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, James Brown, Jim Morrison, BB King, Keith Richards, The Beatles, and Eric Clapton.

"We are thrilled to present these limited-edition rock 'n' roll photographs to the greater Santa Ynez community, and excited about our new partnership with The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection," said Douglas Braun, owner of Presidio Winery. "Chuck was an amazing photographer and his work has been an outstanding addition to our Solvang location. Our customers have really enjoyed examining and discussing the photographs as they sample our assorted wines. We look forward to showcasing additional classic rock photographs as we sell the prints that are currently on display and develop a rotating gallery space in our tasting room.

"At our event on June 18th, we'll have wine specials and a few additional images from The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection on display. This promises to be a special day for lovers of wine and classic rock 'n' roll. The curator of the collection, Jeff Schwartz, will be joining us, and we hope that a few members of Chuck's family will be in attendance as well."

Our partnership with Presidio Winery highlights more shots of west coast bands and musicians than our previous showings, which emphasized several British bands like The Who, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones," says Jeff Schwartz, Director of Strategic Partnerships for The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection and curator of the event.  "Between his early work with KRLA Beat and his travels throughout Southern California, San Francisco, and Portland, Chuck documented the full spectrum of the west coast music scene between 1964 and 1979. The Presidio Winery tasting room display includes several California favorites, like Jackson Browne, The Mamas and the Papas, The Doors, and Carlos Santana. Chuck's access and proximity to these artists on the stage and in the studio allowed him to take some pretty amazing shots!"

Chuck Boyd's photographs represent both his talent and his incredible access to dozens of rock 'n' roll legends, onstage and off. The 30,000 astounding images that make up The Chuck Boyd Photo Collection showcase many of rock's greatest stars, and were all captured by a single photographer between 1965 and 1979. The limited edition prints on display here have only recently become available to the public for viewing and purchase for the first time in decades.

Presidio Vineyard & Winery was founded in 1991 from winemaker Douglas Braun's concept of bringing European viticultural philosophy to Santa Barbara County. His idea was of a vineyard focused on high-density, low-yield per vine, planted low to the ground to maximize the refraction of heat from the soil, at the winery's Presidio Vineyard estate, located west of the Santa Rita Hills near Lompoc. This certified organic and biodynamically farmed vineyard's cool climate and southern-facing exposure is particularly well-suited for Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay.

Presidio's vineyard management blends modern viticultural techniques with traditional farming methods. Braun's involvement in the vineyard is year-round, from pruning to harvest. Controlling pruning to limit crop levels, meticulous canopy management, and precisely monitored minimum drip irrigation with organic compost fertilization to maximize concentration result in the highest quality fruit; the essential start to a superior wine. At harvest the fruit is hand-picked and sorted to ensure select clusters, and immediately transported to the crushing facility to prevent deterioration of the flavor chemistries in the hot, summer sun.

Throughout, Braun's focus has been to match the varietals to their preferred environment. While most mountain ranges run north and south, Santa Barbara County is unique in that its two ranges run east and west, creating the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Maria Valley. The proximity of these valleys to the Pacific Ocean, coupled with their orientation, acts as a channel for fog, rendering these valleys as an excellent place for growing many different grape varietals.

As the Santa Ynez Valley has been under the ocean several times in the past 150,000 years, the vineyards are deeply rooted in vertical Monterey shale - composed mostly of diatomite and calcium carbonate - a result of thousands of years of marine depository and geological uplift. Closer to the surface, the sand and loam are excellent for drainage. For these reasons, the cooler western part of the Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County has the ideal climate and soil.
