WARM FUZZIES AND COLD ICE CREAM
September 6 –October 3 , 2010
Opening Reception: Friday, September 10, 7-10pm
Scoops presents “Warm Fuzzies” a solo art exhibition by Amparo Jelsma. Solitude, nature, landscape, quiet meditation, minimalism, and wabi-sabi are themes frequently explored in the artwork of Amparo Jelsma. “Warm Fuzzies” is a series of small works on paper that beckons the viewer to observe a little closer. Amparo executed these drawings by rubbing pastels with her finger and other rudimentary objects into hand-torn handmade Yucatan paper (also known as Huun). While engaged in the flow of working with pure color, these abstractions bring about a feeling of peace and optimism that she wants to share with her work’s audience.
Amparo Jelsma studied art at California State University, Fullerton and later spent time developing her work in San Francisco. She now lives and works in Los Angeles. Her work can be seen online at http://www.amparojelsma.com. She also runs an ongoing participatory art project at http://thehappy-project.com.
