> DESCRIPTION
PawnShop presents "I Like You More," a two-person exhibition that encapsulates the instances of agreement and disagreement that accompany the creation, circulation and consumption of female identity; an embodiment of these inner conflicts.
The photographic work of Constantine and McFarlane invites new discussion from its images and titles, taking a new twist on a somewhat predictable narrative. In an anti- “Death of the Author” (Barthes) statement, these works use the titles to give them a new outlook, yet are strong enough to be viewed without.
The selected images for the exhibition re-cast the struggles and boundaries of female identity, questioning the relationship between femininity and decoration. The images propose a revelation of the crushing quiet that answers social narratives, allowing the works to speak with distinct intention and stimulate through their ambiguity.
