BLOCK is pleased to present\, Mark< /strong>\, a group exhibit featuring the work of 5 distinguished contempora ry artists. \;

\n

Nelleke Beltjens is from the Ne therlands and is currently teaching in Bozeman\, Montana. \; The struct ures of her sensitive and delicate sculptures and drawings are abstract tra nsformations of personal experiences with landscape\, travel\, and music ex pressing both simplicity and complexity. \;

\n

< strong>Hedwig Brouckaert is a Belgian artist whose disturbingly be autiful work uses the body as a motif to explore vulnerability\, violence\, and contemporary issues of the mass media such as celebrity infatuation\, fashion\, and obsession with health and cosmetic surgery. \;

\n

Richard Haley has lived in the Sacramento area most of his life and recently received his MFA degree from UC Davis.&n bsp\; His work has sometimes been compared to that of another UC Davis grad uate\, Bruce Nauman. \; Richard&rsquo\;s work originates from internal conceptual explorations and expresses a highly personal dialogue---setting up projects and absurd experiments in order to test hypothetical questions.  \;

\n

Casey O&rsquo\;Connor is a Sacramento area artist and Chair of the Art Department at Sierra College in Rocklin. \; He uses ceramics in traditional and non-traditional way s---as a vehicle for experimental social interactions. \; He has\, for example\, placed works anonymously in unusual natural settings\, allowing t hem to be &ldquo\;discovered&rdquo\; and thereby transformed into interacti ve pieces and objects that encounter the world independently. \;

\n

Lucy Puls is a nationally respected sc ulptor and current chair of the UC Davis Art Department. \; She has rec ently turned her sculptural sensibilities to drawing. \; Using her meti culously maintained journals as a conceptual platform\, she develops &ldquo \;sketches&rdquo\; by selectively obscuring photographic documents of her e nvironment. \; Her elegant and sophisticated works explore psychologica l and social terrain with an alluring ambiguity derived from the tension be tween what is revealed and what is obscured.
