A Duchampian Sanford and Son
by Chris Bors

Daphne Fitzpatrick
Bellwether
134 10th Ave., between 18th and 19th Streets , New York, NY 10011
October 11, 2007 - November 10, 2007

You step up and then down an antique fir wooden ramp to enter Daphne Fitzpatrick's show of fastidiously tweaked and salvaged material at Bellwether, but this minor detour is well worth it.  A standout piece in the front of the gallery is "Delphin darling follows the ship all the way to port," 2007. Consisting of a series of interlocked sculpted sausages on a metal shelf, snaking their way into a blown glass jar, it is both elegant and witty.

Take a seat in her plywood "Sandmand" structure, featuring a video slideshow of random objects equally banal and compelling. Surrounded by furniture pads in this tiny room, you’ll want to stay awhile and immerse yourself in this Duchampian Sanford and Son environment.
