Contradicting common belief that great art emerges from within the secluded walls of academy, the works of self-taught painter and draftsman Jason Shawn Alexander account for the artist’s high motivation and relentless spirit. Modern in its subject matter while vulnerable in its nature, the young talent’s work has not only been shown in numerous galleries but is also included in the private collections of director Darren Aronofsky, screenwriter Andrew Cosby, and novelist Greg Rucka. Finding formal inspiration in the world around him, Jason Shawn’s body of work owns a certain underlying strength that many have come to identify as tangible, through subtle traces of his rural upbringing. Perhaps Brad Martin, a contributing writer for Juxtapoz Magazine and author of secretstill.com, has most accurately described Alexander’s art as a "gritty, drippy, and dark style [that] lends an ominous air, like a fresh grave, and the subject’s poses humanize the whole thing. This is the whole package". Like a gatekeeper of greater meaning. For more information, contact info@101exhibit.com. |
