> DESCRIPTION

Florida, especially Miami, has been the home to Caribbean neighborhoods of Cubans, Jamaicans, Haitians, Dominicans and Trinidadians (among others), who have shared, interacted, and expressed their cultural heritage through Art for many generations. This visual survey will introduce the Caribbean in Miami through its most contemporary artists, both resident here and from their homes on islands and shores, and prepare teachers to incorporate the information into their curricula.

Speakers:

Dr. Carol Damian, Director and Chief Curator of the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. Dr. Damian is a specialist in the Art of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cuban-American artist Humberto Castro. Castro's multi-media, site-specific installation, Tracing Antilles, will be exhibited at the Frost Art Museum October 16, 2013 - January 5, 2014.
