The Book as a Medium for Art will be the subject of a talk given by Donna Seager of Donna Seager Gallery at Aqua Art Miami on Friday, December 3 at 11:30 until 12:30 in the lounge of the Aqua Hotel at 1530 Collins Street. Collectors will have the opportunity to see and interact with both fine press and more conceptual works by some of the more well-known artists in the field. Seager believes that artist books offer an experience of art unlike any other. There is an intimacy and tactile quality that differentiates it from other art forms. In this age of iPads and Kindles, it is no wonder that so many of the art schools in the country now have a department devoted to artist books. Smart collectors realize the value of these works and their particular ability to reflect the culture. Book arts enhance a collection by broadening the level of sophistication and the specific aesthetic concerns: bindings, paper, structures and text are make objects that are in and of themselves exquisite to behold.
Donna Seager has distinguished herself and her gallery from the beginning by her focus on artist books. There is a designated space in the gallery completely devoted to the medium and she frequently hosts panel discussions and special curations by accomplished artists and collectors. Her yearly “Art of the Book” shows have become a must-see for artlovers from far and wide. For a brief introduction to the subject, visit www.donnaseagergallery.com and click on “The Art of the Book”.
