The year 2010 has been designated by UNESCO as the year of Jose Lezama Lima to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of birth of the famous writer.
Cremata Gallery is presenting “Lezama & the ‘Origenes’ Painters” in his honor. His well established and internationally respected magazine “Origenes” (1944-1956), in 40 issues portrayed the most representative painters and writers of the Cuban Republican era.
Amelia Peláez, Mariano Rodriguez, Rene Portocarrero , Víctor Manuel Garcia , Roberto Diago , Luis Martinez-Pedro, Arístides Fernandez were among the painters to whom Lezama dedicated important essays.
Other important painters & sculptors who made the cover of Origenes like Wifredo Lam, Cundo Bermudez , Mario Carreño, Raul Milían, and Alfredo Lozano, will also be represented in this exhibit.
