The ArtSlant Prize, now in its 6th year, is given to emerging and mid-career artists that exhibit great potential and commitment to their artistic practice and whose work helps advance contemporary aesthetic, conceptual, and political discourses. Previous winners include Julie Davidow, Michael Zelehoski, Chantel Foretich, Robert Minervini, Holly Murkerson, Veronica Bruce, Robin Kang and others. As part of this program, three to four winners are selected each year to exhibit at a major art fair in the United States; for the last three years, that fair has been Aqua Art Miami.

Over the course of the year, our users submit their work to be reviewed by a panel of jurors comprised of renowned gallerists, curators, arts professionals and artists. From each round, 9 Juried Winners are selected. In the fall, from this pool of exceptional artists, the winners of the ArtSlant Prize are selected. One winner will receive a purchase award and one of their works will enter the ArtSlant Collection.

You can check out all the jurors and Juried Winners from 2013 here.

The ArtSlant Prize Showcase has 6 Rounds this year. In each Round, artists may enter one image and compete to advance through three stages of winning. The initial entry fee is $3 which will enter your work into the first stage of the competition. The winners of this round will advance to the Juried Round. To enter the Juried Round, applicants must purchase at least one month of Premium Placement which puts the applicants work into exhibition on the ArtSlant Showcase tab. Our panel of jurors which include a rotation of international gallerists, curators and other arts professionals then select one Juried Winner from each category. One of these winners is selected for a month-long solo exhibit in Chicago.

The exhibition site (at right) is on the corner of State St. and Adams St. on one of the busiest pedestrian corners in Chicago's Loop area. Blocks away from the Art Institute of Chicago, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College and Chicago's gallery district, we believe this new prize will be a great exhibition opportunity and a way to jump start your career! At the end of our yearly Showcase cycle, the top 3 winning artists from the ArtSlant Prize Track and one artist from the Student Track are selected to exhibit at an art fair in Miami. They will also receive cash prizes and the possibility of having their work purchased for the ArtSlant Collection.

What are the winning stages for each round in the series?

Entry Phase: Approved entries in each Showcase Round will be displayed in the ARTshow during the entry period. During this time, thousands of ArtSlant visitors will get to see your work while the ArtSlant Curation Team looks at each artist profile as they make decisions on the Showcase Winners.

Categories: Drawing, Painting, Abstract, Sculpture, Installation, Mixed Media, Photography, New Media, Student

If you need help categorizing your work, please see our FAQ for assistance.

Showcase Winners: At the end of each round (see dates above), a group of Showcase Winners are selected by our curation team and reviewers. Selections for Showcase Winners are based upon quality of artwork and the artist's profile display. Premier Placement fees will then apply.

Juried Select Winners: Next, our panel of international gallerists and curators choose the top 9 artists, one from each category, from the Showcase Winner group. These Juried Select artists are then eligible for consideration by our curatorial team for the year-end ArtSlant Prize exhibition and cash awards. In addition, all Juried Select Winners will receive a free year of access to our SalesRoom.

ArtSlant Prize Winners: At the end of the year, our jurors select the final four winning artists from the group of 54 Juried Select artists. These four artists will exhibit their work in our ArtSlant booth at a fair in Miami Beach, win cash awards, and be considered for purchase by the ArtSlant Collection.
