James Otis's painting, Heads Up!!, won first place in the ArtAvita international art competition, and will be on view at Red Dot in Miami, booth A118, during Art Basel week.
Born in Wisconsin in 1946, James Otis attended Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, and was enrolled in advertising illustration, but was quickly swept into the free flowing river of fine art painting. After several years at Layton, Jim was accepted at Minneapolis School of Art, to seek a fine art career. He moved to California after art school and became involved with the West Coast "Visionary Movement" in the late 60s and 70s, and created a large volume of fantasy landscapes. He continues to work in the style of "Magical Realism".
Most recently, Jim was involved with a group show in New York, and recently took a first place award in a competition from World Wide Art Books, out of Santa Barbara, California.
